HOW CAN I REMOVE DUST AND OTHER ALLERGENS FROM THE RUGS

authentic berber rug

I’ve shared at length my love for berber moroccan rugs and vintage rugs, and the first thing everything wants to know: But how do you clean Moroccan rugs!? It is without a doubt the most common question I get, especially as we have them in high traffic areas like our dining room and kitchen.

The cleaning of Moroccan rug should be very safe and time-oriented, as otherwise its texture and quality will be negatively destroyed. Choose only those chemicals that will not cause any kind of harm to the rugs. This is very essential to maintain the original quality and color combination of the rugs. In this article, so of the basic tips and tricks will be discussed for cleaning the rugs .

Spot Cleaning : Berber moroccan rugs

If there is any pet stain or spillage on the rug that has made it wet, then the spot can be immediately cleaned by using paper towels.

Immediately put baking soda on the spot to soak up as much of the liquid as possible. After a few minutes you can vacuum this spot

But, what if it doesn’t work and the above-mentioned technique is not helpful, then a mixture of vinegar and baking soda can be used for efficient and quick cleaning.

For pet stains mix distilled vinegar and cold water in a 1-to-1 ratio. Add to a spray bottle and make sure to soak the rug. You will need to use quite a bit of water to really saturate the wool.

Then use  a soft bristle brush to work the mixture into the fibers of the rug. Let it sit for a minimum of 10 minutes. Blot out any excess liquid with paper towels after it has had a chance to sit and then dry completely. This will help neutralize any smells.

For smaller boucherouite style rugs you can wash the in your washing machine on gentle with cold water then dry outside in the sun. Because they are easy to clean you can feel free to use these rugs in areas experiencing high traffic like kitchens and bathrooms.

For thorough cleaning, a good and sufficient source of clean water is necessary so that the detergent can be washed effectively. It is also important to do a gentle rub using a good scrub brush, so that the fiber of the Berber carpet is not damaged.

A vacuum can also be used as required with high and low settings. Rugs can be dried in the sun and they can be hung on the vertical space for drying.

Remove the Dust from berber rug

Shake your Berber rug outside or hang it + hit it with a broom handle if you can to remove the dust. Be sure you are far from your brand clean living room while doing it : tons of dust will fly out everywhere (maybe wear protection)!

You can also flip your rug to the other side -top side down to the floor- walk heavily all over it (call your kids for help!), leave it like that for one hour or two, so the deepest dust goes away and stays on the floor.
